Programs and Courses at Concord

The Approved Curriculum...
is a sourcebook for instruction in Anderson School District Five that was developed by district educators.  It includes activities, resources, unit plans, websites, and sample test items aligned with South Carolina Curriculum Standards in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  Teachers used the Approved curriculum as the basis for planning standards-based student lessons.
The Balanced Literacy Model...
is an approach that features a balance of instructional strategies for reading and writing: modeled, shared, guided, and independent. This approach fosters literacy and language growth in students as readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. It embraces the belief that good readers make better writers and good writers make better readers.
Leveled Text...
is a method of teaching reading using stories of a variety of levels to meet the needs of students in the K-3 classrooms.  Teachers have received grants for several years in a row to add to the collection of books used in this method of teaching.
Project Challenge...
is a program for students who qualify for more challenging opportunities.  They attend classes in the school during the day with teachers who are trained specifically to teach in this area.
